Woo-hoo! After a full year of waiting, I finally received my Pebble watch today! If you’ve been living under a cyber-rock for the past year, the Pebble is the new geekiest toy on the block. It pairs with your smart phone and allows you to do anything you want, right from your wrist. Well, almost anything.
What does it do?
At this point in time, the Pebble can only do a handful of things, but Pebble Technologies has a completely open SDK (Software Development Kit) to allow developers to continue adding applications and features to the watch for years to come. Right now, I’m only able to:
- Receive text messages to my wrist
- Control my music (Play, Forward, Backward) from my wrist
- Receive emails to my wrist
- Oh, and it also tells time
The Pebble also includes an E-Ink display (similar to a Kindle) which allows the battery to last a full week on a single 2-hour charge.
Right now, I guess this is just a glorified watch, with the ability to see alerts from my wrist, but I’m looking forward to more applications such as weather, stock tickers, calendar alerts, pedometers apps, etc.
