To the idiot who decided to walk onto my driveway last night:

I hope that you impressed your friends with your ability to kick off my driver-side mirror. I hope that everyone got a good laugh, and perhaps high-fived you for your accomplishment.

Basement Update #1

Posted by Chris Inch on Aug. 16th, 2006

If you’re someone who has had the experience of seeing my basement, you will know the mystery staircase that the previous owners left boarded up in the back corner. When Heather and I moved into our house, we quickly discovered these stairs and decided that we were going to take them down.

Basement Update #2

Posted by Chris Inch on Aug. 17th, 2006

I’m back again with more updates. The basement is a bit safer now. Matt came over again last night and we bought two jackposts and three 2×8’s from Home Depot. We made a nice sturdy beam out of the 2×8’s which now supports our kitchen floor.

Basement Update #3

Posted by Chris Inch on Aug. 23rd, 2006

My house is safe again. We finished up the floor joists the other night and I now feel comfortable walking across my kitchen floor. We still have to patch up the subfloor but the hard part is done.

New Fridge!

Posted by Chris Inch on Aug. 28th, 2006

Heather and I bought a new fridge on Saturday. We had looked at this fridge earlier in the week and it was on sale. When we went back on the weekend, it was $200 more expensive. The guy at FutureShop was nice enough to honour the discounted price though. The fridge is being delivered tomorrow evening though, so finally we’ll have some place to put food now.

The dig is on

Posted by Chris Inch on Aug. 29th, 2006

Three pickup trucks and one Bobcat were at my house bright and early this morning, starting work on my lawn. The plan is to dig up and remove a couple inches of soil from the top of the yard. This will be followed by a slew of new top soil and finally sod to make our yard look beautiful again.

I think that this last month has been the most expensive month of my life.

Shop at Asian supermarkets. Period. I just bought a new teapot at lunch. It's rad to the bone. Fancy paited tea pot with the little screen that filters out your tea leaves. $12.99. You just can't find deals like that anywhere else.

Why I shave with olive oil

Posted by Chris Inch on Sept. 5th, 2007

Shaving is a fact of life for most. Both men and women have felt the need to chop off hair as close as possible to their skin for thousands of years. I am no exception. Seeing as I shave my face almost every day and realizing that there's millions of other things I would rather be doing at 7:00AM, I have made it my mission to find the best, most comfortable, fastest and generally most enjoyable method of shaving available.

It's autumn 2007 and, as always, I have a handful of things that are currently filling my life with joy. I'd like to take a minute to list 5 of these things and recommend them to you. I'm sure that some of these recommendations will eventually fade off my top 5 list, but as of right now, you should try these:

Geoff and Ali's Wedding Photos

Posted by Chris Inch on May 15th, 2009

Geoff was my classmate in university and we were roommates for our final semester at Waterloo. This past Sunday, after 4 years of courting, he married Ali Palmer (now Ali Wheeler) at the Mill Lofts in Guelph. I had the pleasure of doing their wedding photos for them.

This is a very short slideshow of some of the photos I took for them, although, more photos can be found in the Flickr Set for this occasion.

Congratulations Geoff and Ali and all the best for your future together!

How to flip a mattress

Posted by Chris Inch on July 20th, 2009

Most mattress manufacturers recommend that you rotate your mattress to allow it to wear evenly and prolong its lifetime. This is especially important if you have a partner that you share your bed with. If you and your partner are different heights and weights, then you will need to rotate it to prevent it from getting too worn in some areas, but not others. The concept is not unlike rotating the tires on your car, allowing them to wear evenly as well.

So how do you flip a mattress? Do you flip it the long way, or the short way? What way did you rotate your mattress last time? This past weekend, I came up with an easy system that is pretty straight forward and will help you remember when and how to flip your mattress:

Inch's Masala chicken breasts

Posted by Chris Inch on Jan. 15th, 2010

I like to experiment while cooking. I like to throw ingredients together and see what happens. I don't usually write down my recipes, but this one was Heather-approved, so I thought I'd share it. Basically, it's a nice little rub or paste that you can spread on chicken to make it ultra-delicious.
